This is after a bit of post-editing. I'm such an editing noob :(

Hmm, so what do you like or dislike about the picture?

I think the photo is not sharp enough and is too dark. I could have focused the subject better? Not only post-processing but the way it was shot contributed a lot to this bad photo. CC please!

I agree. Cannot think of something to add.

Is that food in there? lol Crazy colors!!

The DOF is just way to shallow.

The big blurred background spots aren't round (hollywood bokeh), but have 7 distinct sides (ugly bokeh)

OHHH i seee! What can I do to avoid the ugly bokeh?

Your focus is too shallow. There's nothing in focus except the edge of the plate (?). You needed more DOF and probably better lighting. I think the composition is pretty good, but I feel like just 2 big splotches of bokeh are kind of distracting rather than adding to the appeal of the photograph. The colors are nice and with the proper exposure could probably be bumped up to make an interesting palette.

So I should have probably bumped up the f-stop a notch or two?

50mm
1.2
1/20 shutter speed
ISP 100

I'd have increased the shutterspeed and ISO and used like f 4 or so... Then worked from there to see where it got me.

This shot would have been nice if you actually focussed on the food IN the container.
