Cenozoic Playground Structure

Well, the saber tooth cat it was modeled on was around in the Cenozoic, in Los Angeles. This is part of a very large concrete structure for kids to play around in a few blocks from the La Brea Tar Pits and the Page Museum, where they've got a whole wall of saber tooth skulls on display.

An oft repeated photographic maxim is, "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough." In this case, I think you may be a little too close. I would really like to see a bit more of what's around. It looks interesting.

Also, I think that a photo should be able to "support" the title that you give it, and not require a long introduction. I think the photo and title are fine. Maybe put your "intro" after the photo as a description.

I'll look for an uncropped one , but right now I don't remember if it was a close shot or a tight crop.

Not sure what you mean about the photo not supporting the title if the photo and title are fine. Sorry you prefer postscripts to introductions, but that does seem a matter of taste, and as the saying goes, De gustibus non disputandum, or that's why they make vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Maybe I just write too much. I once put some of my writing through a style checker and it decided my style was long-winded and archaic. I thought about it, and all the commas I like to throw in, and subordinate clauses, and how comfortable I am with nineteenth and eighteenth century English literature, and I thought they really got me right . . . as you can see from this reply.

It was a tight post camera crop. What I didn't want to do was make it too obvious it was just a statue, and showing the base ruined it for me. The reason I like the tight crop is I think it is not immediately obvious what sort of subject we have, or how to react to it. At least that was what I was going for.

Sounds good. I'll be back there in December with my 10-24 , probably on a new d7100.

That is so funny! I had to google "saber tooth cat" to find out the name of the era they are from, and half the year I live across the street from La Brea Pits.
