Central Park photoshoot

Hello all,

I haven't posted in awhile - got really busy at work. But I finally found time to do a photoshoot with a friend who has never posed before. We had a good time! She followed my posing instructions beautifully.

I am very critical of my work and I find some flaws in the pictures below and I want to see if you see what I see! Please let me know what you think.

Also: which one is your favorite?

I know I've broken a few composition rules in this shoot but I did it because it was pleasing (to me haha). Is it to you?

For future reference, numbering your images makes C&C for larger posts easier.

1. I'm not overly fond of the way the corner of the building behind seems to "grow" out of her head.

2. Nice, but needed a little fill light to put some life in her eyes.

3. Her body position in the frame seems a little awkward.

4. I know what you were going for, but it looks like she's scratching her ear.

5. A bit under-exposed. The blacks in her hair are blocked and the white of her shirt is more grey than white.

6. I quite like this, but I wish she was leaning forward slightly rather than backward, and again a little fill was needed.

What a great location for a shoot and what a great model. Technically, the images are great, although I feel as though the model is lacking direction as her poses are a little bland. Did you prep in advance?

I like the first two and #5, but I agree with Tirediron. I think the background in #1 being out of the FOV helps, but lighter is more noticeable. You might be able to darken the background enough to de-emphasize it.

My favorite is #2. Frame, pose, focus, exposure, all good. The background is pleasantly out of focus, and I would call it nearly "bokeh".
