I haven't had one, but I can tell you from my experience working in day surgery that most patients say they are a piece of cake. Versed, the drug they use, is tolerated very well your done in no time. The prep work is what sucks the most. So drink up.

Yep! with no drugs at all, very tolerable too.

I had to have some camera tube thing stuck down my gullet once and it was so easy. Took some gas and the next thing I knew it was 2 hours later. I was concerned that my underwear was inside out when I woke up, but who am I to question trained professionals.

I've had two of them. The preparation is generally MUCH, MUCH worse than the actual exam. You go to sleep, you wake up, it's done. No pain, nothing.

But the first time I had one, it almost didn't happen. Due to the…umm…"cleansing" nature of the prep, and the liquid only, then fasting process, by the morning the exam was scheduled I had the worst migraine of my life, and was dry heaving constantly. My sister came to pick me up and said she was really not sure whether to take my to the Gastro center for the exam, or take me to the ER. She opted for the gastro center; I couldn't sit up in the waiting room, so they took me back immediately. They ended up having to give me two different meds for the migraine to ever get me to the point where they could put me to sleep and do the exam.
The good news was that the exam was the EASY part and turned out fine.

The second time was about three years ago. I was hesitant to do it after the first experience, but this time, no migraine! The results weren't nearly as good though, and other tests ensued.
I was supposed to have another one last year to check on some "issues" from the other one--but I admit, I've put it off. Really gonna have to "woman up" and get it done.
