Common Gallinule

Looks like a cross between our Moorhen and Coot. Nice looking specimen.

It doesn't look like it's fully developed yet, it doesn't seem to have a complete red shield yet like most adults I've seen and I'm pretty sure gallinules and moorhens are the same bird. Coots are related to both but different.
 
Our coots have white face shields.

I guess I made the classic mistake of assuming something. I would have to read up on that to understand why it happens.
