Concert Photography

Hey guys, got a chance to take some pictures of a few bands playing at a local club. It's good that nice cameras can get you free entry..

All shots taken with a 5DMkII ISO3200 ~ with canon 135 f/2L @ f/2 except the first shot ~ Taken with Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS @ f/2.8

First I'll say well done on exposures, all are pretty spot on.

However (and i won't go through all) I don't know if you've cropped themdown or these are non-cropped, but a lot of the photos either need to go tighter or wider to get the guitar/point of interest in view.

I think you've captured moments really well in most of them, but bits and pieces are cut off that would make for a better picture overall

EG, #7 is really good, but you don't need his legs in the shot really, and #6 would be awesome brought back a bit so you can see his guitar and hands.
I know in a club it's hard to get much more than this but stuff to think about!

Yeah I here what your saying. I was annoyed at missing some bits of the guitars and some of the hands are cut off in some. It's hard when people are bustling around you and have super loud speakers in your face, lol!!!! I am happy with the exposures though and this was a first for me so i am quite happy with how these turned out.. I was using a prime for most of these, the 135 f/2L and none of these are cropped. Except the first one.

Cool, I can only hope my first chance at this stuff goes as well!

I hear that getting some good ear plugs is one of the best investments you can buy for concert photography.
I think you can get some $12 plugs (I don't live in the US so not sure on that) and they will let you keep your hearing for much longer! as well as allow you to talk and actually hear things around you without shouting too much.
