Concert Photos (Tonemapped)

Alright, so I shot a local Christian rock band lastnight, and got some decent shots. But I decided to try something a little different with my post processing. I ran a tonemap on them in artizen HDR. I'm not sure if I really like them or not. Just wanted to see what you guys thought. It's too much, right?

Ha it's funny I think second is cartoony I like the first... too much glow in 2. A lower angle in 1 to cut some of the busy background out I think would have helped a lot.

I'm okay with it because it's so close. It kind of looks like a painting to me. THe first one is a weird mix of really detailed, plus cartoony that weirds me out. I agree with you about the lower angle, that was the main thing that was offputting to me when combined with the cartoonishness.

I totally agree about the lower angle on #1, however I had my lens resting on the front of the stage... can't get any lower than that so it is what it is. Thanks for the kind comments guys!

was it a stage near your waist?? SQUAT MAN!!! SQUAT!!!!lol I think they looks great, i just wish the background wasnt so illuminated, it takes away from the intimate feel.

The stage was just a little over 2 feet tall. I was sitting on the floor with my lens resting on the stage as a makeshift camera support. I literally couldn't get a lower angle. I could darken the background a bit in post though.

The tone mapping really bring out some of the worst elements here, specifically the noise. it is also producing halos around the singers head.

The red channel is clipped pretty bad in the first shot. If you can tone down the saturation/luminance of the red channel to lessen the degree, that might make the image a little more dynamic. Reds are very difficult to capture without blowing the channels.

As others have said, I agree about the haloing, it's pretty noticeable. Care to post any pre-tonemapped shots?

The haloing on the second one is mostly a strong backlight, and a slight vignette I added. The first one, it's all haloing and I agree, it doesn't look good.
