The city I live in spent $ 1/4 of million dollars on 30 poles that stick out of a sunken concrete step. Instead of helping the poor. Then $50k on a torch that burns through $10,000 dollars of gas a year. In front of some really nice condo's that run for around $700,000. A couple images of construction ongoing. Interesting pics. Cities like to spend money on dubious art. Often it is controversial and ugly. But sometimes after a generation or two, folks like those things.

I can top that, local city here, 80k population spending 1.5 million on a feasibility study to help them decide if they should build a sports complex.
