Converting to B&W in Elements 2.0

I'm always seeing that people are converting to B&W with the PS channel mixer.

Is there such a thing in PSE 2.0?

Is it simply adjusting the saturation of each color individually?

If so, what combinations should I use to for different effects?

I cant answer your question about elements...
but when you check monotone, the channel mixer is just like shooting with black and white film and colored filters. If you shoot with a red filter, reds get lighter and blues (the opposite color) gets darker. etc...
