Corrupted File

I did an interview today for a project I am working on. When I review the files on my Canon 6D2, I can watch the video. When I try to export it to my computer it says the file is either the wrong format or corrupted. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? This would be really bad if I cannot figure out a solution.

What software are you using to export the file? What format are you exporting as?

I am reading that it may be due to the fact that prior to recording, I removed all data from my SD card from within the camera, and that I will have to format the card again for it to work. Is that a real issue? That would suck, considering it means I will lose everything.

I have tried using itunes on my macbook pro, and on my PC I tried dragging them to my desktop.
