Could you help me find...

I love taking my Nikon D3100 everywhere but I hate lugging around the big case that I have for it. I don't want to just slam it in my pocket book, and risk it being damaged. The body is super light, the lenses are generally a lot heavier than the body of the camera
I'd really like to find anything that would protect my camera that would be small enough to also fit into my pocketbook. That way my camera would be practically glued to me. I'm always terrified to take my camera anywhere because I'm afraid someone will steal it. The case that I have now is a large protective case with a big NIKON logo across the top. It's obvious what's inside.

It doesn't have to be enormous, just something large enough to hold my camera body and my favorite lens, the nikkor 18-55mm, disassmebled.

So any ideas? It doens't have to be an actual camera case. Just something that will protect my camera

I got one of these a while back for my D40 and 18-135 zoom. It's pretty basic and not too large, but I don't carry a purse. If there's a real photo shop near you, I'd look to see if they carry these or something similar.

No problem...just noticed the prices are pretty expensive. $250 for the one I liked. I have a lululemon bag that only cost me $130 that I will use. Good luck

a really simple Amazon search will answer this question for you... that is probably why you have very few replies. Since we have no idea how big your "pocketbook" is, it is a impossible question to answer. Hit the Lowepro and Tamrac sites.. and look at the dimensions on the style of cases you like, and find one that will fit your camera / lens.

I had a lot of trouble posting this, this morning as my internet was being a total jerk. Thought I mentioned that! My pocketbook is a tote size. So pretty large. Big enough to fit my mac in, so at least 13 inches. Sorry! I searched a couple places but just couldn't find anything that struck my fancy. I assumed someone on here probably had the same idea as myself, so I thought I'd ask!

Not a problem.. but since we don't know your tastes, styles, or anything else.. it would be random conjecture as to what you want!

I'm not all that concerned with what it looks like, as long as it protects my camera. It can be bright yellow with poop green polka dots and pink elephants with orange tutu's As long as it's something that will house my nikon and a lens, and will keep it safe, then it's good with me.

I was trying to think of maybe something that isn't actually a camera case, that I could get crafty with and make more protective. A pencil case would be too small... I have a Vera Bradley lunch box that I could probably alter with some padding? It's just a normal lunch bag with one pocket and a velcro closure... I actually think the camera bag I already have has inserts that are removable. Perhaps I'll give that a go

I was having trouble with my internet and it actually posted twice while I hadn't finished writing. Next time I'll be sure that it is APA format, or do you prefer MLA, sir? I mean if you wish I culd tlk lik dis? Sorry that I inconvenienced the professionals on here by wasting their time with such an innane question, I just presumed that people with the same interest may have already encountered the same conundrum and mayhap have had a brilliant idea. Thus, I posted... And I didn't realize things needed to be so proper on an internet forum. However, hence forward I now know, and will use my best and most proper english for all the English Nazis.

Just to say though 'hugadinosaur', don't be fearful of taking your camera out because someone might steal it. Take your camera out as much as you want too, you got your camera to take great photos. Go and take them!

Truth is taking your camera out is only as risky as taking your mobile phone out of your pocket or simply taking your wallet out of your pocket. If you look at it this way, it may ease your mind a bit.
