Critique the processing on this...please. :)

[Bend The Light]

Just practising with my new 50mm 1.8. I think I missed focus on this shot, but used it to try the processing. If it works, then I will endeavour to recreate the shot (which will NOT be easy as Annie has a mind of her own!).

What are your thoughts on the processing? I know the shot is soft, a little movement blur, too, but that aside...?

The lighting is nice and the subject is excellent. I really like her pose as well but the softness of the focus hurts it. Would have been great if her right eye was really sharp.

Definitely worth a re-shoot, and consider using a vertical (portrait) orientation to avoid the disembodied hands.

Thanks. She is a bit of a cutie, yes. I also have a bigger one at 5, but both have their own little problems when it comes to posing for me! I will try and try again, though!

so "pay" them for their time with a movie, or toy or something! They are modeling for you after all! Let them decide what they want to get "paid" (within reason, of course)... you would be surprised how motivated a kid can get (I am sure you know that already!) lol!)

Get into it.. dress-up, hamming it up, being silly... I love working with the little ones!

Yes, good point. Will probably try it. As it is, it makes a nice mobile phone wallpaper.

That would work, to a point with Ruby (age 5, going on 14), but not with Annie (age 2). Annie has learning delay and this reasoning is beyond her right now. It does lead to spontaneous, relaxed images, however, as she is incapable of deliberately "posing". It's all good fun, though.
