D3000 with external flash/strobes

I have a D3000 and im going to get a SB-700 external flash. I was also thinking about trying some studio photography and would like to know what i will need to make things work. I plan on getting 2 strobes after the SB-700. What other accessories do i need to make this setup work? (wireless or wired). Thanks for any help.

Your best bet will be radio triggers. There a host of options from the cheap, off-shore eBay versions at $25-30 each to the gold-standard Pocket Wizards at $250 each. The cheapies work reasonably well for the most part, though they do tend to mis-fire at times. You can also go wired by getting a hot-shoe to PC adapter and using PC cords, but that gets messy quickly. Optical triggers are cheap and cheerful and work reasonably well, but require that the strobes can "see" each other and you'll need to use your onboard flash to trigger them.

thanks for the quick respond. One last thing i wanted to know is if anyone knew a decent quality monolight that i can get at a good price. Or will i just be better off getting another speedlite?

Set the SB-700 in SU-4 mode. Done.

The Flashpoint series from Adorama seem to be well regarded and I've had good luck with Opus kit.

so if i get the sb-700 will i be able to get 2 other sb-600s or sb-700s and use all 3 speedlites off-camera? i know i would need a TTL cord for the sb-700. correct?

i wouldn't bother with a TTL cord as you'll probably use all your strobes in manual mode. The RF-602 triggers should cost about $70 for a Tx and 3 Rx's. Throw in a few light stands and swivels and you're ready to go. Well - maybe an umbrella and a few gel filters, too!
