Wait and wait game

I currently have a D80 - pretty descent, but bad in low light...I am addicted to the Nikon Rumors site telling me that 'every month' a NEW announcement from Nikon will be made...NOTHING YET - maybe next year

I am doing alot of family sessions/homecoming dances for high schools, day care shoots - etc - it is given me some extra cash

I want to give out the best quality image so my work can be my source of advertisement...

should i get the d700 or wait for the anticipated d700s/d800...hate forking out $2600+ only to have it trumped by the newer model (months away - or so they say)

i have the money (just recently sold my kidney

I bought a D7000 and am holding cash waiting. There is a heavily reduced D700 or brand new Dxx in my future

I am waiting for Nikon proof of the "New" too!

This sux!:grumpy:

Get on with it NIKON!!!

lol, some people have been waiting 2 years already with the false promise of a new body just around the corner....meanwhile I've snapped off thousands of frames in my beloved D700.

Another option is a used one, I saw 2 for less than $1800 today on Craigslist.

The technology of the D700 may be enhanced by its replacement, but there is no way you can tell me that it is yesterdays news. I've had my D700 a few years now and am still amazed by its performance. However, before you splurge to go full frame, make sure you have proper arrows in the quiver. Glass first; should be the mantra.

I hear ya! I think I just may stop waiting for the "new" and go with the NOW!

There will also be something new coming.

If one keeps waiting for the next best thing, nothing will happen.

Ditto!!!

I was in similar boat few mns ago when felt that it was time to add another body to the arsenal - adding another Dx or Fx? D700 was the obvious choice and NO REGRETS. I have pushed the camera to higher ISOs since and pulled of products that I feel Dx body wouldn't able to give me.
The only major difference I've noticed b/n D700 and D300s is that 300s has a quicker focusing when in continues mode, otherwise there is no contest.

As a newB I'm holding out for the long haul with the D7000. As for glass, I have the tokina 11-16, Nikon 24-70, and tomorrow the 70-200 will be delivered to the front door.

This hobby is killing me, I just got pocketwizards, manfrotto, flashes, etc

But its a good time indeed, Nikon will save me some money if they wait on the next full frame offering

You should be able to buy a used d700 for $1500-$1700. I bought a refurb d700 for $2200 nearly two years ago!The price of used d700s will only drop by $200 or so when they release the d800, so why hold out?

Oh dude, post pix of bokeh!! I already have a 35-70mm f2.8D and I'm debating about getting the 70-200mm f2.8 VR2.

Why not wait for the D900 it's only round the corner :lol: while you are waiting you are loosing out the new one will hardly be better than the D700, I use a 5Dmk1 and 2 1Dmk'2 and still out perform photographers will 5dmk2 and 1Dmk4 so i could not give a ****

Diz-actly Ann!!! To the power of 10...

One way to make the decision is to do a quick bit of research on the interwebz, then take a Washington quarter, and flip it high, high in the air and let it land on a hard, flat surface. HEADS, you head into the store or head to your computer to buy....TAILS, you turn tail and wait for "the next--big--thing" to come out. Works really well, as long as you can commit. No best two outta' three or any of that nonsense, just one, single flip of a quarter.
