What's new

D700 NOW or wait...

Why not wait for the D900 it's only round the corner :lol: while you are waiting you are loosing out the new one will hardly be better than the D700, I use a 5Dmk1 and 2 1Dmk'2 and still out perform photographers will 5dmk2 and 1Dmk4 so i could not give a ****

gsgary, in your opinion, when can we expect to see the Nikon D11500, aka the Nikon D eleventy-five-hundred, hit the shelves??? Any ideas?

Hopefully, you have FX lenses to use on a full frame camera body.

As mentioned the D700 is very capable, and will be for years and years to come, regardless any new model Nikon releases.

My milkman says he will be delivering them a week on Wednesday

You guys keep on with your epic Nikon bodies. As a newB/student I'll keep humbly buying glass and holding out for the day my unworthy D7000 will be replaced with a next-gen full frame

But I want ISO 128,000 without any noise!

Oh, I plan on buying the new body if it is a nice jump in performance and keeping the D700 as a second. ;)

Yea, now thats not asking much right there !

Back to the original post,

Rosy,

I gather from your post that photography is a business for you and generates income. Well then, your decision to buy or not should be a business decision. Don't let soothsayers, crystal ball gazers and wishful thinkers tell you when to buy. Now it's the d700, then it will be d8xx, then you be waiting for vr version of some favorite lens, ... etc.

If the d700 can generate some increased revenue or help you do the same revenue with less post processing time, and that revenue will be more than the depreciated amount of the camera when the time comes to replace it, then you should buy it.

Even if the d700 's' or 'x' or d800, or whatever is announced this afternoon, it's not very likely you'll be able to have one in your hands anytime soon. In the meantime you might be loosing money. Analyze your business needs and make an informed decision based on that.

If you have to use iso's that high the shot is not worth taking

D700 is a fine camera and its true that if you are waiting for the next big thing to come out you are in a for a serious journey. HOWEVER, if you wait a bit more, you will get that d800 and its replacement will come out when? 3-4 year after the release of the d800? i decided to wait and enjoy my d7000 for what it is and keep the money for now.

If you NEED the d700 for some paying gig you have to do right now, just buy it because you will be loosing income and possibly some cash you could put towards that d800 when it comes out.

WOW - an answer directly geared to my question - YOU WALK ON WATER!!!!! thank you

Wait and wait game

I currently have a D80 - pretty descent, but bad in low light...I am addicted to the Nikon Rumors site telling me that 'every month' a NEW announcement from Nikon will be made...NOTHING YET - maybe next year

I am doing alot of family sessions/homecoming dances for high schools, day care shoots - etc - it is given me some extra cash

I want to give out the best quality image so my work can be my source of advertisement...

should i get the d700 or wait for the anticipated d700s/d800...hate forking out $2600+ only to have it trumped by the newer model (months away - or so they say)

i have the money (just recently sold my kidney

Does the D80 have overexposure issues like the D40/50/60?

My D80 back up cam I usually bracket two shots, one at normal and the other at -.7 and its a toss up which one I PP.

yep, but i cn work with it - my main problem though is the lack of low light capability. other than that it is a great camera
