The SD cards actually have a spinning disc in them. CF cards are solid state memory. nothing moving in them. Obviously when you have any moving parts, those parts can break... much easier than something that doesn't move at all.

Thanks for the information. What is the RPM the disc inside an SD card spins at? Is it 78 r.p.m.? Or 45 r.p.m.? Do they make 33 and 1/3 rpm, long-playing SD Cards for lengthy shoots?

SD cards are solid-state flash memory. There is no spinning disc.
