Daddy's Story Time

I recently did a shoot for a lady I work with. From some reason this shot jumped out to me when I was reviewing her photos.
The light was coming in from the window and then reflecting off the gloss finish on the book. Had a very old school feel to me.

I was going to say 50's or 60's for sure! Are the tones in the B&W too much? I never know how far to push.

You're losing detail in the blacks; his shoes disappear into the floor.
