Please comment and criticise. I am only 14 and I am new to this but have been taking photos for years on and a point and shoot. Shot with the 550D with 18-55mm kits lens

I like the composition, I like the light. I'm impressed. One thing though, notice how the eye on the right (his left eye) is kind of blending into his body around him? This is usually undesireable. I bet if you put a piece of white paper to his left to reflect some of the light onto the shadowed side, the separation would be a bit more apparent. Otherwise, it's a solid shot.

Honestly I gotta say for a kiddo I think you did a darn nice job! Keep on shooting and learn all aspects of photography and you'll be a kick butt photographer!! I'm 2x your age (god that made me feel old lol, even tho I swear I'm not!) and wish I started studying it more earlier on. I do agree with Bazooka's CC, animals and capturing them can be a bit tricky. Especially with their eyes and the positioning of their bodies. I have a lot of off shots of horses (especially b/c their eyes are on each side of there head) where it looks like they have one eye b/c of the angle I took it lol!

If you have photoshop this is also a quick fix using Nik's Viveza Plugin or adjusting levels/curves

I think it's a really good picture as well. The only thing I see is that the left eye (the lower one) is a little dark, and almost belends into the dark fur. That's it though.

The original looked ok but the dog looks kinda sad (even though he wasn't he is just quiet sometimes) so i though that black & white would suit the sad look of the photograph
