Dark shots with a f3.5(newbie question)

So I got a Sony a100 body and i have put a tamron 18-200mm on it. I am not too happy about the lens, but I noticed my shots are very dark for some reason even when my metering is fine.

Anyone has an idea on what the solution could be? Or what the problem is?

Posting an image with the exif data in tact so we can look at it would go a long ways towards helping.

although the lens will open up to 3.5 there may still not be enough light at this aperture and your chosen shutter speed for correct exposure, hence the dark shots, there's also an issue of lens performance at 3.5, wide open zooms are not usually very good they need stopping down. Get a flash. H
