Like I mentioned, you need background lights.
 
Yes. I agree. I'm trying to get it right. I thought shooting in a studio would be easy because I would get to control my lighting... turns out I have a LOT to learn in order to light my backgrounds/subjects correctly!

I'll keep working on it!
 
Shooting in a studio is "different", not easier or harder. You're right, the wonderful thing is you have total control of your lighting! Most people who say "I don't like to use flash, I like to use "natural" light, don't know anything about flash/studio lighting. It's impossible to produce most studio shots outside when working with one light, or at least INCREDIBLY difficult. Besides, why bother? Most "outdoor" photos you see in pro magazines were created in studios anyway! :)

I much prefer to completely control my own lighting, as opposed to "leaving it up to the weather" and shooting at X time of date. Forget that, lol.

I would again strongly recommend picking up a copy of Master Lighting Guide - you won't regret it.
