Decision on cameras

I'm new to photography and am looking to get a camera to last me a while. I can't decide between which camera to get. I'm looking to spend up to $700 maybe a little more if it is worth it. I am looking for good quality. Video recording would be a plus though. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I am a beginner myself and I decided to start out by purchasing an Olympus E620 with kit lenses. I supplemented with more lenses and accessories and I was very happy with it. I am switching to Canon, but only because I inherited a significant amount of Canon gear. The Olympus was a very fun and easy camera to shoot. Of course, I am as new to this as you are, so take my input for what it is worth.

the pentax kx is a great camera for the money!! can get one with the 18-55mm and the 55-300mm lens for 650!

I was thinking about a slr or dslr camera. I want one of thouse

You could probably pick up a used Nikon D90 or Canon T1i plus a lens or two for that price range.
