I have another name for them! I hate these things. Have a running battle with them, as they can destroy a yard overnight. Trapped several, and shot a few more, but they keep coming back. Not only that but there's this More than half of Amazonian armadillos carry leprosy

I understand completely, people around here have bigger problems with wild boar/pigs rooting up everything. My AR-15 and smoker would love to meet a few of them in person.

I shot one with a 20ga loaded with #6. I know I hit him because it rolled him. Before I could get another shot off, that sucker was up and like a cartoon character he picked up his shell, extended his legs and was off like a shot. You would not believe how long their legs are and how fast they can run!!!!!!!!!

Agree with Dean, number 5 is a great shot! Never seen one outside of a zoo, didn't know they were such a pest other than being roadkill. Glad you stopped for the photos.

i've only seen a few at distance and the rest as roadkill. you've got some nice photos of them, but man they're ugly.

They're burrowing creatures, they have those huge claws and they use them very well for digging ….and digging …. and digging and their underground burrows can ruin a yard or even a building foundation. Yes, it can be that bad. I had a 1st Sgt. from Puerto Rico that tried catching them when at Ft. Hood, Tx. He said they made for a great soup. He never caught one but was funny to watch him trying in that thick, Texas scrub.

Oh, I believe, their shells/armor is legendary. I ride a motorcycle and around here and they can be my worst nightmare, hit one at speed and it'll be like hitting a big rock. Then, as I'm laying there wondering what the blippity blank just happened and busted up he'll brush it off and scurry away laughing at me and probably thinking, "Ha, got me another one!" I think their main source of fun is taking out cars oil pans.
