Do you change your auto focus settings often?

Since most of what I shoot is Low Light with flash, Nikon kind of forces me into the AF-S mode.

First, I'll explain what I would prefer, and then how I get around it. I would prefer Single Point, Continuous focus, and focus release. Basically, to keep focusing until the point under my selection comes in focus, and then for the shutter to fire.

At first glance, you would say that is exactly how continuous focus currently works, except Nikon for some reason(probably battery life), disables the Focus assist on a flash during continuous focus.

I find the focus assist grid from the speedlight invaluable. So, it forces me into AF-s. So, instead, again, focus priority, Single point, Single Focus, but utilizing the AF-ON button in the back and I just have to retap the button every time I want it to refocus.

Honestly, I'm not sure why Nikon imposed this limitation. If I find I am having trouble locking focus, almost invariably, I accidently bumped the swich over to AF-C...which is easier to do than it should be.

Kerb - Canon does exactly the same in disabling the focus assist lights in continuous focusing - like Nikon it only works in one-shot AF mode. I assume if both companies are doing it there is some sane reason for this limitation

I'm sure there is. Thinking about it a bit further, it is probably a limitation of the lights themselves. Possibly only good for short bursts before heat becomes an issue? Or, a battery issue.

Either way, I would prefer having the option.
