Do You Have a Point and Shoot For Backup?

Canon G10
Seems to be the winner in most all reviews, I personally don't care for the controls but haven't played with it very long.

Yes.. a real winner. My only complaint is that it really isn't small enough to just throw in my pocket.

Panasonic LX3
Haven't seen one in person but seems to be missing some features I'd like, such as aperture priority.

This is my first choice but I haven't jumped on it yet... The LX3 manual is available for download from Panasonic's UK website. According to it (unless US versions are different) the LX3 does have Aperture and Shutter priority.

My backup P&Ss are my aging Canon G5 and a Panasonic TZ5 (awsome deal from Circuit City's last day of business). I'm looking to replace the G5 with either a panasonic G1 or perhaps Canon G9/10. I like the superzoom on my TZ5 but I wouldn't mind having the LX3 (used of course).

Not really back-up, but I have a Canon A520 (yeah...a few years old) for when I don't feel like draging my camera bag around.

It works for what I need it to do.

I have a compact 2.8 28mm to 200mm for backup on personal shoots and a 2.8 fully adjustable pocket camera. I am currently looking for a new fully adjustable pocket camera with more features to replace my older classic.

this is not really considered a point and shoot, however, i got it as a put in your pocket camera, olympus e-pen1

I used to carry a Coolpix 8700 as a travel camera but shutter lag and bad low light starting to get to me. So I ended up getting a remanufactured D40x and kit lens to carry around when I travel (don't want to bring good stuff when I travel for work). Not that big of a camera over the 8700. And so far has worked out really well. Paid little less than $300 total. So about the same price as the better P&S cameras.

I generally won't carry anything other than my SLRs. My philosophy is if I'm not willing to invest the effort to shoot with one of my better bodies, then I'm not serious enough to bother... not to mention, I HATE point and shoot cameras. Hate hate hate hate HATE HATE HATE.

I'm a hater.

:)

I just hate going "Oh wow, what a neat... damnit, the camera was too slow to catch it..." and any of the other crap associated with most P&Ss.

I'm sure everyone's gonna bark at me for this. :P

I hear ya manaheim... I have a fujifilm f45fd that I used to love, now I think it's slow as can be, I hate it. Does take great pictures... of the moment 2 seconds later.

Was originally going to go the D40/D60 route but thought something smaller might be easier to bring along.

I may have to give the LX3 another look.

Manaheim..., lol. Thundercats.

I wonder when they're going to do a Thundercats movie...?

...They've made movies of all the other 80's cartoons.
