Does VR affect video footage?

I am wondering if the lenses vr mode mode turned on affects the video footage you capture with it? Also as a second question: does the vr turned on drain more battery life?

Yes, in fact vr benefits video more than stills. With today's high ISO capabilities you are rarely forced to shoot low shutter speeds.

My question is why you continually disparage VR and IS and OS? You seem generally very knowledgeable about most areas of photography, but seem to have a major chip on your shoulder, a total blindness as it were, when it comes to the benefits of optical image stabilization.

Image stabilization is one of the most-recent advancements in lens design. It is a tool that has many good uses, and yet, you continually, and repeatedly act as if image stabilization technology has absolutely zero benefits and zero worthwhile uses.

I just cannot understand why you are so utterly blinded to the simple science that underlies image stabilization. Why do you persist in repeatedly dispensing flat-out ignorant and bad advice, over and over and over again, for years on end? I simply cannot understand this Luddite tendency in your thinking.

I am personally sold on VR for picture taking. When i try to take a picture with the vr on i notice it doing its thing on my 70-200 vrii. Instead of harsh movements without the vr, i notice softer and slower movements in my viewfinder with vr.

I am not familar with nikon VR, but on my Canon, I find that while its IS is excellent for handheld stills (and even more so for video) it actually causes worse performance if you are using a tripod (user guide mentions something about the vibrations causing a feedback loop), so if you are videoing using a tripod, maybe try turning it off, otherwise, it is great.

The problem Derrel seems to be at your end.

Image stabilization is very useful, up to a point.
I know how image stabilization works, and when its use is beneficial.

Use it when it beneficial. Turn it off when it isn't.
