What's new

Dog this morning when i got up :) C+C?

I don't have much to offer in regards to critiquing your photograph, however, I would like to say that I did enjoy it quite a bit.

I love the look older dogs develop. He looks like he could use a good bath and some lovin's (sorry, that's the pet sitter talking).

I do like that you choose not to have the picture in color. My eyesight is horrible, but it appears to be in B/W and not one of those Sepia-esque filters.

C&C per req:

The subject matter is appealing, but unfortunately the technical issues keep the image from being a really good one. Strong back lighting has hurt the exposure, causing almost total detail loss in the fur on his right (image left side), and the cluttered, distracting background is less than attractive. The use of a flash, even just a pop-up would have helped a great deal, as would moving your shooting position slightly to eliminate the cars, garbage can and lamp standards in the background. When shooting animals, try and get down to their eye level. Oh, and don't forget to level in post.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

Thank's for your advice! I quite liked the cars and things in the background i thought it gave more story to the picture perhaps? like he is an old dog and he lives in this neighbourhood and is used to the cars and people, but i'm not saying you're wrong i'm just saying i quite liked it. Any comments on the red layer effect i used? Someone just taught me how to do it recently, not sure if it added to the photo or took away from it.

I think certain cars would help to tell a story, but not *those* cars... those are new models, nothing unique about them, nothing story telling. Old models, or rusty junkers would, imo, fit the storyline.
