From the description of the problem with the camera- it sounds like the prism is "desilvering", which looks like dirt when you look through it. This problem is common in Kodak Retina reflex cameras, I replaced the one in my Reflex-S with one from a Minolta. "Dumb-Luck" that t fit.

Hard to believe that a 50/1.4 in screwmount is going for over $50. I picked up a Pentax Super-Tak 50/1.4 for $20 a couple of years ago, with a Black Spotmatic. Gave that one away. Same with Canon 50/1.4's.

This 55mm isnt going for anything. Its free. Hard to beat free. Didn't know about desilvering. Pretty interesting.

Put me in the running for this give away. From what I've read, shooting film with an slr would only help me improve with my photography.

To answer your question about what would I do with it, if it were totally unusable, well it would look good as decoration and a subject of pictures or a prop for them.

i was actually more concerned with what you would do with the lenses if the body was trashed. the lenses are actually in good working order. ;)

If there is a converter for it to my T3i then, I'll be using that lens for photographs.

I have a couple of M-42 mount bodies, the meters in them are not working- but the rest is good. I'll keep looking in boxes.

If someone takes the lenses for using with FILM, I will send the body to them for free.

that's pretty cool of you.

I found a user condition Vivitar 220 that has a working meter, takes the m42 lenses. "wear" in the black paint on the baseplate. Otherwise- looks decent, and will take these lenses. Prism looks good.

This camera is made by Cosina. I'll be happy to provide it to take the place of the GAF camera.

The other camera is a Fujica ST-701, but meter is dead on it. Otherwise works.

well this is pretty awesome then. It means that if anyone is interested in getting into film with some decent equipment, BrianV will provide a camera, and I will provide the lenses. if there's anyone interested in these, now would be a good time to speak up.

Definitely interested. I would like to be considered.
Way to go BrianV savin' the day there haha ;)

Gonna wrap this up over the weekend and maybe ship it Monday. Put your name in if u want it.

You can throw my name into the hat! I would love to get into film. I also would pick up a m42 to nikon adaptor asap! Would be nice to have something wider than 35 and have a fast 55!

Let's see if I can monopolize on my current situation.

After working for seven years as Network/Systems Administrator at a local non-profit employment-search-assistance organization, my position was eliminated in July of this year due to budget cuts. The Minnesota government shut down for a little while and only started up after cutting expenditures, of which was one of our biggest sources of funds, Health Care Training (we were one of the primary places to go for CNA training in our little town). Our other major source of funding was cut temporarily (too long unfortunately) due to some mismanagement of funds by a fellow affiliate program in the Twin Cities and subsequent auditing that led to DEED ending funding for all the organizations state-wide.

I live in a small town and have been looking for work almost daily but as of yet, have had no luck. As a result of having my job eliminated, I could no longer afford to live in the place I was and had to find a cheaper place to live. I ended up moving into a friend's place who was living on unemployment until he receives full disability from the VA (he was a Captain in the Air Force for twenty years). Turns out, yet again, our state government cannot agree on anything. This is bad news for him because the disability claim will take another six months or so and his last unemployment check is at the end of this month. That wouldn't be so bad as he could simply file for an extension. Our republicans and democrats cannot come to an agreement and so have not been able to pass any laws concerning extensions. My unemployment won't be effected but it will not cover the rent and utilities. So we're pretty much screwed in the coming weeks.

Now that I've written all of that, I guess it seems that having the lenses and camera wouldn't help my situation. I cannot afford any more lenses and most of what I have (and I already have quite a bit anyways) are too soft to be useful for very clear photos which seem to be the ones people love. My photos are soft and they are what I love. I was thinking I could try to sell some of my photos to try to make it longer out here at this place before I'm left homeless yet again (moved out when I was sixteen, homeless for nine years after), winter is coming here in Northern Minnesota, would rather not be homeless again at this time of year. My current soft images, though having a place in my heart are not necessarily ones people will buy. I don't really take photos to make money but if someone wants to buy them and it keeps me out of this impending situation a little longer, then it may suit me to have lenses that are capable of sharper images.

That's why I'm thinking these lenses might help. I don't know the quality of them as I didn't of any of the other lenses I bought. I've never been able to afford really good lenses and decided to buy old glass and adapters to fit them on the 1000D I have. It's hard to judge what IQ the lenses will have as I buy them off the internet at places like KEH and shopgoodwill, so I bought a few of them. I did get a relatively sharp lens that stays on my camera most of the time (Pentacon 50mm 1.8).

Well, enough with my sob story. I don't expect to get this deal as it would most likely just add to all the stuff I'll have to figure out what to do with at the end of the month when poo hits the fan and I have to yet again move. I hope that whoever you choose to send these to will benefit a lot more that I would if I were in a better condition to utilize them fully. Thanks for the consideration though and actually taking the time to read through all of that rambling. I wish you luck. Wish me luck as well, I'll be needing it.

*My grandma (RIP 2009) used to tell me when I was homeless and would call her to, "Keep my chin up". Those very helpful words have helped tremendously in my life and I will continue to do so now in my current situation. Things will work out for me I'm sure. I'd rather have this happen when its warm. If you've never been homeless in a Northern Minnesota winter, you're lucky. It's nothing to write home about. This town sucks for homelessness. One homeless shelter (for families only) and some churches in the area take in the homeless during a few of the winter months (SOS Servants of Shelter).

Move down to the cities Drex. Plenty of jobs. Or north to Warroad as Marvins windows always is hiring. Roseau has Polaris which usually is hiring. By next year around June or July you could come and apply where I work as that is the busiest time of year. If you bust your ass at my place, you will become full time with benefits. I have been trying to convince my father in-law to move from Warraod to Bemidji to get a little closer but it seems job hunting isn't a good idea out there. Have you checked Duluth?

Craig- that situation sucks. The 50mm lens that you is a good one. I don't have many lenses in screwmount, but did find a Vivitar 135/2.8 with good glass. It will work with an M42 screwmount camera, or the K-Mount with your adapter. PM me if you want it. I might have a 28mm manual-aperture lens, no promises- but will look for it as well.

For the people wanting to try out film, I also found a Konica TC-X with 50mm F1.8 lens.

I was thinking if I were to move out of here, I'd go try to get a job at Digikey in Thief River Falls. I'll have to find a way to get rid of most of my belongings first so I wouldn't have as much to move (my camera stuff, a few books and some clothes is all I would bring).

But I am trying really hard not to move. Please read http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/...nted-town-northern-minnesota.html#post2792832 to find out why I don't necessarily want to move if I can help it.

Rebranded Chinon 55/1.4 = likely rebranded Tomioka - among collectors is a sort of myth. Fortunately I already have one (Ricoh branded), thus I do not have to convince you that Italy is indeed a continental US state :)
