As stated before, started with Nikon in 1969 and still shoot Nikon today. I still prefer the feel and controls of a Nikon over any other brand. And, yes I've tried them all, they just have an awkward feel and balance to me.

Well, personally, I like to know so I can see if there really is any difference in the way different cameras handle images, usually the way they handle noise is different, for example...

Of course, this is just a slight interest, I realize great photos can be taken with almost any camera. Personally I use a Holga, old Nikon and Pentax film cameras reguarly (just shot 3 rolls today on my FE). My friend's got a Canon 20d that has great image quality. I'm not really biased towards any brand, but it's still nice to know from a gearhead perspective.. I don't see why you (craig) are getting all defensive about it.

I (craig) am getting defensive about it because this is a tired subject. Just about any subject in photography is more important then "what do you shoot with?"

Between the 2 big names, they hopscotch each other every so often. Best IQ will swap back and forth as each develop new technology. Sony and Pentax are minor players and playing catchup. Sony has the funding and makes a lot of sensors, but Nikon makes the machines they are made on. So I don't think either will ever change there relative positions from where they are now to any major degree. Pentax is too small a company and does not have the research funding to make any revolutionary advances, so I look for the market to stay somewhat like it is now.

I'll can accept that.... personally, I don't really take it so seriously I guess. I usually just ignore posts that annoy me.

The question what you shoot with is only important for the person shooting .. for all other human beings around, the final photograph is what counts :)

I'll chime in with Nikon but didn't we do this before???

we did this many times ... *yawn*

Was about to post, oh i disagree, without Song, nikon wouldnt be doing anywhere near as good, but then just noticed it. I think to be honest with Sonys new release cameras, their first full frame and the fact that are going to (depending on what contract they have with nikon) start using their sensors for them instead of letting nikon at them, so it could all change around soon, it all depends on where sony go with their sensors now they are releasing semi-professional cameras.

Nikon toys here too. But I have Minolta and Mamiya film cameras too.

Nikon, because I can't afford a 'Blad. ;)

Blads are pretty cheap these days.
A 500C and a800mm can be had for about the cost of a discounted D80.

sorry if we've done this before. Honestly i just wanted to see if there were many other sony shooters out there, but i was also curious to see what the canon/nikon levels were. I'm kind of surprised that there are so many more nikon shooters that voted so far though. sorry to anyone who doesnt like this thread though, just ignore it and go post on other threads. i wasnt aware that this had been done a lot before. I just wanted to try out the poll feature

You're really buying into a 'system' when you first choose..... some switch around but once you start investing in lenses (lenses are foever, bodies are temporary)it's like marriage. Divorce can be expensive.

Went with Nikon for the glass when we went digital. Don't expect changing at this point.

Dad's Contax and Zeiss lenses cost more than most people paid for a car in the 50's - they got passed down in his will. I expect what I've got will be passed down as well. The bodies don't have the same lifespan but the lenses are good for decades.
