I have dust in between the elements. Fixable?

I suppose it depends on the value of the lens.

Fixable, yes. But it might be an expensive process to pay for a lens repair tech to dismantle, clean and reassemble your lens.

A better question might be, does it matter? Dust in or on a lens will rarely show up in your images.

get a quote on a cleaning. all the lens companies will offer this. there's authorized third parties too you can contact as well.

Virtually all lenses have dust in them.

Lenses have to be able to 'breath' and dust gets in when they do. Even lenses with weather sealing.

You can have a lens cleaned and as soon as you use it, it will start injesting dust again.

Like Mike says, unless it's negatively effecting your images........

Shine a flashlight through any lens from the opposite end you are looking at, and you will see dust.
^^ Pre-zackly. Unless it's showing up in your images (and you KNOW that it's lens dust and NOT sensor dust) ignore it. It's a fact of life.

I didn't know that about breathing but it makes sence. Well it's a tamron 90 prime macro lens. I got it for like 500 bucks and would like it to be sharp for a while. I started seeing dots and squiggles showing up in my shots mostly up close. I was thinking this whole time that it was the sensor but I got to looking at my lenses and noticed dust in my most used lens. I have a camera shop in town but I don't care for thief customer service all the much. Might need to stop in and have it all checked out. Camera is about 2.5 years old and the lens is 2.

A macro lens is probably more prone to actually allowing the dust to show up. One reason that dust won't show up with most lenses, is that the lens itself is pretty far out of it's own DOF, so the dust is blurred into oblivion.

If you do decide to have it cleaned, I'm not sure that a 'camera shop' will do it. More likely, they would take it and send it to a Sigma repair center, which you could do yourself.

Can you use another lens and set to f/22 and take a photo of a white wall and see if the same dots at the same position?

Not all of them. I have not done that back to back on a white wall. THO I was thinking that same thing when I posted this. Good idea! That will tell alot. My camera is to far from me now to do it. Thanks for the responses

Yup I had this problem on an old lens, luckily it didn't have any lasting problems on the images, like Mike said, it can be expensive, really depends on how much the lens is worth to you and if it matters that much

Kansas did a song called Dust in My Lens...it was a really great old rock song from the late 1970's...

Lol " all we are is dust in the lens "
