Went on a little road trip to try and see some Bald Eagles. Apparently there is an area in Red Wing MN where the local power pland dumps heated water near a park, keeping the water open creating the perfect winter refuge for these huge birds. People that I know have said that these birds, at this time of year, come in the dozens to this area to fish.
The problem is that unbeknownst to me, they have decided to shut down the plant for the last two weeks for maintainence. This causes for poor Eagle viewing.
There were a few there when we got there, so I took what I could. It seems my lenses are a little short for the distance they were at today.. (yes, I know, I opened the door for some third grade potty humor..... and I'm giggling myself.) The good news is that there were some ducks too, so I at least got some nice, usable images.
These were all taken with a 135mm Nikkor AI 2.8 at about f/8. Feel free to C&C if you would like, I'm always open to criticism. Really I just wanted to share because we had a realy good time. Also, it was the kids first time seeing a Bald Eagle in the wild. Man those birds are cool.
And big.
