Eastern State Pen, which lens?

I am going to the Eastern State Penitentiary next week, was going to rent a nice lens since its a once in a lifetime deal, what lens would you rent? I was thinking the 24-70 2.8 II.

Not a gig, just heading to Maryland from New Hampshire and stopping there for a day for a tour and of course photos.

Something about prison and historical landmarks always intrigued me!

When I was there about a month ago, I used a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8. I didn't change my lens once. Ok, I did use my macro for some shots but that's my thing. It's a great place to shoot! Have fun!!

Sorry, I misunderstood - thought you were shooting a working prison.

Are you limited to one lens only? If so, definitely a 24-70. After that, an ultra-wide angle (or even a fisheye) – you'll be shooting both in small rooms and very wide indoor spaces, which are the places where an UWA or fisheye shines.

Eastern state is a great place to visit, even if you don't bring your camera! I've done the tour a couple times, it's a 20 minute drive in traffic from me. If you want suggestions on other places to shoot around the city, I know them all!

Yes I would live more suggestion as long as it doesn't consist of sitting in traffic for hours!

Is there a huge difference between the 24-70 II and the first gen?

glassandgear.com doesnt carry the 24-70 ii

My other option from glass and gear would be the 16-35 2.8 ii or the 17-55 usm IS, I read that the 17-55 IS is much better for a crop sensor, is that true and why? how does the quality compare?

all this being said should I go with the 24-70 first gen or one of the wide angles above?
