I had my first bad trade on ebay 2 months ago, the guy took ages to send me the item, and then when it showed up it wasn't what he advertised. So I contacted him, and he ignored me, I then opened up a case in ebay's resolution centre. Long story short, they fully refunded my money - £185, without any hassle. It took a while about a month, but in the end I got my money back. So what I guess i'm saying is that there probably are a number of scam traders on ebay, however, having ebay's buyer protection thing, it makes it a lot safer for us buyers....

I would say that generally, if there is a dispute, to hold off giving negative feedback straight away, cause if you do that too soon it could work against you. Just open up a case and let ebay sort it out.

That was pretty quick to pull the gun, PayPal usually will not get involved before 30 days. Quite often these Ebayer's send the items through USPS parcel post as cheap as possible and dont have any tracking numbers.

Even if USPS gives them a number the Post Office usually does not update any info until it is delivered to you.

Not sure of the time limit on the buyers end. I know as a seller, if I don't recieve payment within 7 days, I can start the resolution process.
It sounds like you made a purchase from a lazy seller. I take positive feedback and customer service seriously. I always ship USPS priority mail and have never had a problem tracking the package. A lot of sellers do ship parcel post with a tracking number which usually won't show any info till you recieve the package.
Did the seller state in the ad that it would be shipped within a certain time frame ?
What was the shipping method being used ?
If it was shipped priority mail, it only takes an average of 3 days anywhere in the country.
If it was parcel post, it could take anywhere from 7-21 days.
Media mail is about the absolute worst. I had a package delivered to me 40 days after the seller shipped it. The thing that was really upsetting was that the seller was only 35 minutes away from my house but would not let me pick up the package. They did send me another package in its place when the first one didn't arrive in 15 days, so I eventually ended up with 2 identical books.
Hope this all works out for you in the end. In the future, be sure to check the sellers feedback before you commit to buying. If there are any negatives, see what the reason was.

Ok, I just connected to the link you supplied. First, given the negative feedback about damaged items and shipping, I would have bought from a different seller

secondly, I would have refrained from leaving feedback till the issue is completely resolved with either you recieving the lens or a refund.

Third. if you check the shipping and payments section of the ad, it lists Standard shipping which usually means parcel post which is slow. It also list the expected delivery as Nov. 5 to the 12th.

Always check the shipping method before you commit to buy, if it's something you need in a hurry. And always check the sellers feedback .

Just FYI the expected delivery is if you bought it today. IT changes everyday. He told me he would ship it the next day. I paid for him to ship it insured with confirmation and he said he would do so.

Not hardly, based on my experience oveer several years of shipping through the USPS, both as a seller and as a buyer.

Certainly, if the shipping distance is short a package could arrive before an update, but otherwise,.....

you must be special. I have yet to see any updates through USPS until the day it arrives. that would be over hundreds of priority mail posts

USPS does update their tracking, but it's terribly slow compared to UPS or FedEx. Like mentioned, by the time it's updated it's often at your house (we're talking 3-5+ business days, not a very short timeframe). In my experience it generally takes 24-72 hours for them to even update that the # is in their system.

UPS on the other hand is instant. If I go downstairs to receive a package, by the time I come upstairs and check the tracking # it's already updated as delivered with the time and location (front door, back door, etc).

One of the many reasons why USPS is becoming obsolete and wont be around much longer unfortunately.

That's good, maybe that will help them stick around a bit longer. A lot of people rely on them for jobs.

And a lot of people rely on them for their regular mail. I would love to see the panic if/when the USPS goes out of business. Not to mention that the higher cost of sending bills will be passed on to the customer. Welcome to the cheaper life through non-government businesses. What a joke!

$10 to send a Xmas card???????????? We are so stupidly anti-government we have no idea what it actually does.


That said, I've had only one problem with e-bay. Used to buy Mercedes Benz cars there for fry oil conversions and the one time I bought one close enough for me to pick up, it turned out to be not quite what the listing made it out to be...

It got resolved in about 5 minutes. I bitched and he gave me a second car of the same year (our favorite year) as a parts car. His loss but he was too worried about his ebay rating. We fixed the part car for just a few dollars

But I do pay close attention to the ebay rating of the sellers. And I don't just look at the number, I look at the history. Some guys get their good ratings from buying and that says nothing about what kind of seller they are going to be. When using ebay you need to do your homework.

If an item is shipped to me parcel post it almost never shows the tracking info till after it has arrived. I even asked at the post office about why I can see the tracking on some packages and others show nothing and all they could tell me was some post offices don't scan everything through. Doesen't seem logical, but thats the answer I got.
On everything I've shipped, I always use Priority and have never had a problem tracking the package. Whenever I've dropped off a package I make sure they scan it while I'm standing there.
Again, this is just my experience...........results may differ by location

Got 2 today with no updates since the package was originally scanned. I will see an update tomorrow that will say it was delivered

Paypal gave me my money back. All fixed. I didn't get screwed. Thank God I was worried there for a minute. Gives me more confidence in using Paypal.
