Editing in lightroom

I have been learning lightroom and practicing. Any tips on editing newborns? I feel as if I keep resetting the picture because it is being over-edited. The more I look at the screen, the more I feel like maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me.

I'm also afraid that even if it looks good on my screen, it may look odd if printed and blown up.

In what way does it look over-edited? What all are you doing?

That's a valid concern, and it will happen if you don't calibrate your monitor with a calibration device.
If you print yourself (rather than sending images to a lab for printing), you'll probably also need to calibrate your printer.
