Environmental Portraits - Critique Please

Here are some environmental portraits we have done recently, feel free to critique honestly!

..How are these environmental portraits?
Environmental portraits are to be shot while one is in their natural environment (job, house, etc) and usually is not posed, either. I don't like either of them, #1 the pole is super distracting and the lamp floating in mid-air is too. #2 harsh light and shadow, it's like there was no effort in composition.

Too posey posey for environmental, which are meant to be more natural and in an actual environment..-_-
 
The subjects occupy so little of the frame it seems a stretch to call them portraits.

The PVC tubing and the trouble light in the first seem out of place with the studio backdrop.

The images are to small to critique in any more detail than that.
 
Environmental portraits are those done within someone's normal environment, typically seen in their work place and such.

I wouldn't quality these are portraits, as mentionned, the subject is way too small. They are photos, sure, but not portraits.
