Environmental Portraiture

These are some portraits from my photo class this semester. The subjects are still pretty rigid since it's not an art class. Some are more environmental than others, but they all kind of fit the same theme...I think...heh.

Nice! for the sake of CC the white balance appears a little on the orange side on all except maybe 3 and 4

Not bad; one suggestion: For environmental portraits, try and have the subject interacting with their environment, not just in it. That is, have the barber cutting hair, the cook at the grill, the hospital guy torturing someone, that sort of thing...

Yeah that's one thing I was kid of on the fence about for the class.

The prof wanted more traditional style portraits and less photojournalistic types. These would be more like the opening photo to an editorial to give a bit of context. Then I would have taken more action-y shots for the meat of the story.

All I can say that this is great work, I really like them and how they tell a story

Do you mind sharing what lens were you using? I got the 16-35 but till now I was not able to get this interesting wide angle portraits like 1 & 4.

I really hate to say this, particularly to a young person, but, IMO, these are all pretty nice.

I would correct the perspective distortion on the first because it draws my eye.
I think the last two are the weakest because of the lack of background stuff.

I would change the last.
His feet are asymmetrically placed and his junk mound is too prominent and it just about touches the barre, thus becoming a too-obvious part of the image. (I know it's proper to ignore this but..........)

Perhaps even something radical to give the photo some kick as the viewers realize that it's all him - and you get a chance to make the foot placement work.

All that being said, pretty nice stuff, I think.

Of all the originals I like the fourth one the best, just because the person shines right through the image and you have caught it well.
The perspective distortion adds here, I think.

Ah, cool. Yeah the whole bar thing is pretty noticeable, but in the original aspect I didn't want to liquify it away or something for ethical reasons, but that edit is pretty awesome. It's kind of a double-take sort of image. Like "oh that's interesting, wait, what the hell?" Heh.
