Where Professional Models Meet Model Photographers - ModelMayhem <--------------- To find models.
What they want ranges simply from images all the way up to pay plus hair, makeup, wardrobe.
When *I* have a concept I want to shoot, I generally try to find Hair and Makeup (although that's not for the model so much as it's my wanting it because it makes the images look better and more finished), and I work with the model on wardrobe. Sometimes she has in her closet what I want... other times I've bought stuff off E-Bay or a thrift store... or even the mall... other times I have friends with pieces that I can borrow.
I usually provide coffee, drinks, snacks for the team. I don't provide food generally, because I'm poor and I can't afford to feed 5 people every time I shoot, but coffee and donuts or whatever snack they want (I usually ask in advance if there is a particular request... although usually there's not) is easy enough.
Just curious, what are you doing for hair and makeup. Hiring?
I've gotten lucky with my last few gals.
Back in PA I had a good relationship with an MUA who really loved my work and wanted to work with me... so we did a trade shoot. Model got images and my MUA got images.
If it was a shoot for my portfolio or for fun, she just helped me out in exchange for images. If it was a client and I got paid... she got paid.
When I moved to Nashville I was getting ready to have to pay someone for my previous style shoot, but I ended up running into a talented woman who just started digital photography after being a film shooter and wanted to trade makeup on projects in exchange for Lightroom and Photoshop lessons, so that's where I'm at now. But just like with my last girl... if I use her on a paid shoot... she'll get paid too. My pricing is budgeted for me to pay for H/MUA.
Some people will only work for pay... some want to pump up their portfolios as well, and in those cases, I give them images... they do the hair and makeup in exchange.
It all depends.
Do not grab her chest and hollar "HONK HONK!"
Trust me. It doesn't go over as well as you might think.
Well there goes my introduction.
With TFP models is it ok to let them keep the wardrobe, or is that a no no?
You can give the models whatever you want.
I don't. If I'm paying for the clothes, I'm either keeping it for reuse, or selling it. Or in one case the model and I were the same size so I kept it... for MY use. :lmao:
I'm also requiring they bring an escort (one of the girls is 17) even though I'm not even a creepy man.
I don't require an escort, but I always have a team of girls. Plus the only girl I photographed that was underage was my last one and I spoke to her mother who was cool with the shoot. HOWEVER... if you're a guy... it's in your best interest to ALLOW escorts.
I know this sounds sexist, but seriously... telling girls they CAN'T have one, is a red flag and is creepy. You don't have to require one, unless that makes you more comfortable, but definitely don't forbid it.
ALTHOUGH... I discourage boyfriends. Boyfriends are distracting, whether the girl wants to admit it or not.
I did ONE shoot where I allowed the model to bring her boyfriend and she ended up getting mad at him for knowing a model I was talking about and thinking she was cute. Ruined the last few frames I had because the model just couldn't get back to her happy place after that conversation. ::smacks forehead::
