Extension tubes with 135mm lens

Hi all, just bought some auto extension tubes for my Nikon. They offer a total extension of 68mm. Is there any benefit to be had from using them with say a 100 or 135mm lens? Will I hit 1:1 with the 50mm standard lens?

YES, the benefit is a greater working distance. This helps with dangerous or skittish animals or subjects at ground level where you don't wish to lay down on the dirt to shoot. Anyone who has used a 50mm macro lens for any length of time can see the need or desire to have a 105 or 200mm macro. The 135 will give you a nice working distance. You should approach 1:2 or better with the 135 and most likely exceed 1:1 with a 50. That all depends on the version of lens you have and the close focusing distance each has without the tubes.

I beleive you will get 1:1 with 50mm but not with 135

135mm can be used with extension tubes to get magnification with increased workding distance.

Thanks for the answers. For what it's worth mine are Vivitar AIS. Seeing as there's no glass involved I didn't see the value in dropping big bucks on Nikon ones :mrgreen:

Just a little good natured ribbing. The only possible difference would be the total length used. You could even stack a Nikon set, on a Vivitar set, on a promaster bellows, but that might be a little ridicules.

You want ridiculous? i used to use Zenit manual diaphragm bellows with a 28mm wide angle reversed on the front end and a K1000 at the back end. Fine adjustment was not a forte of the Zenit bellows :mrgreen:

Seems I tried such things long ago when funds were lacking. Most photo nuts have to try a lot of silly things as we evolve.
