External Flash

I got my 400D a few months ago now and have been thinking of getting an external flash unit. My question is wheather or not its worth getting one yet or do i use the internal flash and just work on taking better pictures? Also if i should get a flash should i get the 430EX or the 580EX II?

The small flash on camera is a very poor flash unit. Harsh light close to the lens = washed out, harsh light and red eye images.

A 580EX will make a huge difference but you also need to learn how to use it.

Do yourself a favor and never use the built-in flash.

The 430EX is a pretty good unit, but the 580EX (II) is significantly better...but also a lot more expensive.
