Photos OK to edit
Well.. I planned to do off camera flash.. but I had to scratch the idea. It was very hectic and the photo shoot was kicking my butt. So I just stayed in my comfort zone (on camera flash). These are 3 families: Grandparents, daugter with husband and twins, daughter with husband and a child.

#5, #8 and #22 are home runs, grats!

#19 not level
9, 15 and 17 their faces look a little too bright
Since the guy was wearing gray you should have exposed off his shirt and recoposed the shot

in #16 +.33 was a better choice of exposure rather than +.67 in #15 and #17

i absolutely LOVE 1, 4 6, 10(his head i wish was cropped out.), 17, 18, 21. great job!!! i think the 1st pic if my overall favorite. I would pay for that photo of my kids.

#19 not level

eh.. Maybe you could straighten it so the right side of the bench is vertical, straight up and down. I might crop it a bit too... cutting off the top and right side.

While there are a couple that seem to need a bit more facial light, this is surely a success.
+ You seem to have gotten a good mix of somewhat posed shots and candid style
+ Kids are playing--acting natural and not scared

I really like the hair in number 5

The shadows on the child in 21/22 bothers me a bit.

Keep up the good work! ;)

Much, much better than the early set with flash that you posted several months ago. I'd like to point out for the benefit of 'the general' that in these shots, you've made sound, fundamental decisions on when to orient the camera horizonatally, or vertically.

1,4,6,10,19,21--ALL of those shots make total sense framed as horizontals.

#9 looks ok to me.. I have fixed 15 & 17. I actually raised the exposure higher on LR on these images. Bringing it back to 0 looks better. You missed the critical information on my EXIF data. Partial Metering.

.33 was a better choice than .67? Are you kidding me Mo? You made this comment for only 1/3 stop? You took all of your shots at "perfect" exposure all the time with automated setting? I could have moved the frame 1 ft left or right and my exposure may have gone down 1/3 stop. You just learned about AV, EC and different metering modes like 3-4 weeks ago.

Thanks.. yeah I wish i didnt cut it off. My lens wasnt very wide and I was already lying on the grass LOL.

Fixed, thanks!

Thank you derrel. Using 70-200mm really helped me with my framing for sure. When I was using 50mm, in order to switch from vertical to horizontal I ofthen had to move farther or closer. Dont have to do that anymore with the zoom range. I still used the 50mm on the indoor shots though.

After looking at my photos again, I reduced a lot of the magenta and red. The twins father's face were little red.

Good shots.
By looking at the first few the other couple must've been off camera because the kids seem distracted. Im not sure about others but when those posing are all looking different directions it is a distraction to me. That definately must've been a handful. Cute shots of the kids.

Well considering the family I think you did great!
Sometimes off camera flash just isnt worth it. And when you have that many young toddlers is one of those times...
I'm about to go to a family session, indoors, with 3 kids under 3. gah I hope I can do as well as you did with this family!

thanks tirediron and ababysean.

I am really considering buying some kind of a silly hat with lights or maybe something with lights and sound to hang from my lens to get kids attention.

When I work with young kiddos in the camera room, I make funny sounds and funny faces. I'm sure the adults in the camera room think I'm nutso, but the little ones get a kick out of it. :) *Think: Clown with a camera.*
