Family Picture at the Beach C&C

Good morning all. I'm new to photography and I've included one of the first family pictures that I took at the beach. I like this one, but I'm always looking for improvement. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks

I like it bc it captures the 'fun moments', but it feels like he photobombed it and the camera focused on him instead.

Quite nice composition, in fact very, very nice I think.
I would decrease the saturation a bit (look how the red shirt almost glows) and consider cropping to remove some of the empty space.

All in all, nicely done.

the narrow DOF ruins the shot. I probably would have taken it closer to f/8-11 or so to get everyone in focus, at least f/5.6 or so so they aren't so OOF. With nothing in the background, there was no reason to use such a large aperture, and the parents in the background are too out of focus and look odd.

I shot this close up portrait at f/8 so you could still make out the city, without it being so much in focus that it got distracting, you can see it's still very much out of the DOF: https://www.flickr.com/photos/80607199@N08/14394886353/

As said above, i would decrease saturation, and bump up some blues to make it pop more...but not to much that it makes it look fake
