do any of you guys know if the camera store keeps your pictures private?.. lets say if i went to wolf camera.. or ritz camera or something to develop my film.. they aren't suppossed to look right?

and another thing... is wolf and ritz a reliable place to develop?

Pro labs are more likely to look, because instead of letting the machine print them on auto, they actually have a person running it. This is a good thing. If you want to take naughty pics then digital is obviously the way to go.

yeah..i had some nude photos in mind..and the model kind of wanted a portfolio just for herself =\ ... but anyway ... would ritz or wolf camera be reliable?

Well, they are usually staffed by part-time employees who are less likely to have a stake in following the rules and such. I'm not saying that people who work there are automatically untrustworthy, but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable bringing them to someplace that wasn't a pro lab, where at least they are used to such things. I wouldn't be surprised if some hoser decided to make a few extra prints for themselves at the retail places.

I have worked in lots of labs - from 1 hour to pro labs. Regardless of the rules or policies, saucy pics get noticed. The really good pics often have an extra "test" print made and either thrown in a drawer or put in an album. There are some labs that don't but it's not the norm. Best bet for nudes (or any other pics you don't want seen) is to go polaroid or digital.

hurm..so where do i find a "pro" lab?.. .i don't think i've ever seen one... maybe because i don't pay attention.. any near san francisco? or stockton, ca?

Nude photos disgust me - I see the often - and I often choose not to print them. (We are told we do not have to print anything we find offensive or don't feel comfortable printing).

If they do get printed - believe me - we do not check the colours...

With our printer we check the colours, darkness, etc. - so we do look at all of the photos... If we don't - people whinge because their photos dont look good - when half the time its because they have just taken **** photos...

The pro lab I worked at for years was quite happy to print nudes, as long as they were not "pornographic" as defined by state law. Basically that meant we'd print rated R photos (nudity), but not rated X (people having sex). Although we did sometimes take a peek, overall it got pretty boring very quickly. There were no special drawers or albums full of naughty pics, and all photos, from nudes, to landscapes, to whatever were color corrected to the best of our ability. If you think a lab is being squirrelly with you, and not treating whatever photos you bring in with the utmost professionalism, then I'd never go back.

i work at a pro lab in la and we see tons of dirty pictures all the time i also worked at a ritz camera also ... yes we do see your pictures but we are not allowed to make copies or tell anyone outside the lab -- at ritz thing were a little more free (extra copies etc) you might want to find a pro lab or send it off to be developed (snapfish, kodak)

thanks... now i wonder where i would go about developing film?

There was a publication called Shutterbug where you could find advertisements of these labs doing the 'discreet' developing for you. I don't know if it exists anymore but it's worth a try. If not, look at the end of Popular Photography, they might be advertising there. Have you tried Google?
