What is the difference between the Canon Circular Polarizer Glass Filter and the off brand such as Tiffen and Hoya? Are the off brands equal?

I wouldn't say that the brands are equal...some are better and some are worse. Canon isn't really known for 'high quality' filters...I'm not even sure if they make their own.

When it comes to things like filters, I usually avoid the lowest priced ones and don't shell out for the most expensive ones.

OUCH I need a 77mm but over 400.00 is wayy out there.....I will opt out for a cheaper one on ebay.
Dao, Do you use third party? If so what brand and how good does it turn out photo's?
