Now I have my first customer. I'm doing this for free by the way. she wants me to take some sensual photos for her hUsband. I'm thinking of getting some muslin back drops. I was thinking rose red or something close because i think it would go great with the theme. What other colors do you guys suggest. I have a 2 light setup. does it really matter if its muslin or not. Currently I have some polyester ones. Also what is a good length to get.

I used a beautiful red Savage paper and I love the color, BUT, i'd be careful if you are thinking about a lenght that would allow having the muslin wrap down along the floor with that color. A red reflection that I found in my photos was beyond annoying, might have just been due to the paper, but a word of warning. If you get muslin backdrops get a small handheld steamer. Target has a Rowenta for $30.00 and it works really, really great!

Congrats on the new studio!

I already have a steamer so there's one thing off the list.

First, I do not have experience with backdrop. However, if I am going to do it, I may try getting the gray color seamless papers and then use flash with gel to color it.

No one in my town sells seamless paper. it takes days to order in and the shoot is sunday

Since she wants some sexy shots, i would shoot her on a sofa, a bed, on the floor, in the kitchen, since you have flashheads and a speedlight that shouldnt be a problem. Use your lights and shoot ajnywhere you can, Most boudoir shot that way look awesome IMO. If your are proficient with your lights and photoshot you can probably create something a glamourous, sexy, even if its shot on your old appartment carpet in front of your 15 year old sofa.

Here one of my favorite glamour photographer who shoot alot in this kind of setup.

VASKO PHOTOGRAPHY

I think glamour and boudoir shots on plain background are a bit boring, especially if the model is new not experienced in doing this type of photography.

Personally, I think for boudoire work, a black background & low-key look is the way to go. I agree with Dao though, for future work, grey seamless and coloured gels are the way to go!

Get some black velvet, this was shot with a ring flash

Muslin is fine, but perhaps shoot them in Black and white? I don't particularly like the way most muslin's look in color. Also, don't put the lights 45 degrees and eye level, use kickers to create some depth.

so what is the ideal angles. I usually go by 45 up and 45 to the side. So use alot of side style lighting. Thanks for the help guys.

whew, it's getting warm in this room. Need to turn the stat down a couple more degrees. :)
