Here is my first attempt at partial black and white picture. This was taken in Kingston (Ontario, Canada). It's a gun salute to the graduating class of the Royal Military College of Canada.

It was taken with a Nikon D90 with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II lens (focal length : 90mm, aperture : f 5.3, Shutter speed : 1/1000, ISO 400).

You love? Why? You hate? Why? I want to learn so feel free to go at it!

you succeeded in producing a good selective color image, so thats

however, as far as im concerned, selective color is

Nicely captured, and an interesting application of selective colouration, but the image is seriously under-exposed. I would take this back to the pixel room, create an adjustment layer for the main part of the image, raise the brightness by at least two stops.

Thanks a lot for the accurate answer, I'll give it a try!!

I like your first one best.
PS a transparent flag or a kneeling soldier in the sky.........

the edit could benefit from a contrast bump.

and i disagree with the advice of superimposing anything in the sky.
