Hey Guys,

This is my first attempt at star trials
startrials1.jpg

20 minute shot, f8.0, ISO 100
Is the orange due to the sodium street lighting in the area?

I tried a few different lighting balance and this was the least red/orange, its the AWB setting.

Cheers,
Steve.

ok, first off, try to get less of the trees in your pic. Would also help when they would be in focus (not the easiest thing to do when dark, i know :) )
I dunno if you can shoot in RAW, but if you can do that. With that you can change the WB in a RAW editor later on.
And the fact that the sky isnt black, probably is caused by light polution. All the street lights and what not also shoot their light into the sky and with long exposures your camera will pick that up. This can give the sky a rather strange color. You can get rid of it though (most of the times), check this: http://thephotoforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31015
Or you can go to a place not known to man and try the sky shots there :)
