First band shoot

I was asked by a local band to do a promo shoot for them, never done one before but thought why not. They are a really heavy rock band so I went for a grungy style shoot. Their FB page is here From Here Eyes C&C welcome.

I think it works, mostly. Personally I'd crop a bit closer in 3 and 4 but the deadpan expressions fit the image, as does the darkness. I like the light flare in 3; not entirely sure about the fish eye effect but that's probably just me being an old fart. I'd look at more of your photos on Flickr but my connection is playing silly b*ggers, from what I can see you have some excellent work there.

What strikes me is a total absence of the "what/who" factor; that is: Who they are, what they do, etc.

Kinda "faraway". These lack immediacy or connection to the band members. Shots 3 and 4, for example, have about 85% environment, and a small 15% of the space is occupied by the "people"...that just does not make me want to "engage". For promotional shots, a lack of a desire to visually "engage" with the people is a serious drawback. A proven fact is that people LOVE to look at FACES of other people. Show us some faces!!!!

I like 2 the best. The background fits the grungy style you were going for but not dominating the photo like the others do. It makes the picture more about the band rather than the background.
