First Day with a camera!

Just got my T3i. So I tested it out. All on Auto Focus. Beginner with this so gonna take some time figuring out other modes. Didnt edit these pics or anything. Straight from the camera:

Welcome to the forum. Just a simple request - when you post images, could you please number them. This makes it a lot easier for someone providing a review, to refer to them- don't have to keep scrolling back and forth to figure out the image number. These are nice snapshots, my only comment is to watch the cropping/clipping - you clipped the ears off in numbers 2 and 4.

One suggestion for the future, if you are going to continue to take "pet" pictures - get down to their level - it is very similar to shooting small children - you need to get down to the point where you are level with their eyes, or there about. The other thing I noticed is the intrusion of distracting elements into your images, for example, the second one has a part of a picture in a frame, a door and some shelves on the right side - these are very distracting. There are lots of sites on the web that cover pet photography from all different angles, for example - Pet photography tips for beginners - Cameras - CNET Asia . You can find others using Google and some appropriate phrases.

You might want to do some reading on image composition and I would encourage you to surf the web, but you could start with - Advanced Composition -- Part I - there are two following web siteswith the links at the end of the site. As well, have a look at this one - PhotographyComposition Articles Library as there are a number of links to sites on composition. There are anumber of books that have been written on composition - you might want to lookat one by Bryan Peterson called Learning to See Creatively - Amazon.com: Learning to See Creatively: Design, Color& Composition in Photography (Updated Edition) (9780817441814): BryanPeterson: Books. Thereare lots of others.HTH.

Wow thanks for the long response! Appreciate the feedback and links for helpful articles! Will read them now. Just trying to get my basic stuff down as it is my first time ever with photography! Thanks a lot

Try not to cut the ears off and that will help a lot for most animal photos. More centering would also help.

Little by little you'll improve and learn about composition, my recomendation is first to explore the asthetics together with the technical issueas and then when you feel comfortable go to the narrative part, just keep exploring, experimenting and having lots of fun , regards !

Same to me I just have kiss x5 (t3i), if you happy with your photo you are success on your part.
Another part is make other people happy with the photos you shoot. Learn from this forum you will get better and better.

Check the whole frame before you shoot to try and avoid random objects turning up eg. #2 (bottom right). Also crop the images a bit tighter so the viewers attention is pretty much on just the animal itself.
