I'm doing my first family portrait this weekend, for my cousin.

There will be four people in the picture: Mom, Dad, and the two kids (both under 3 years old). I have two 400ws monolights with umbrella's that I will be using. I also have a background stand and will be using either a blue muslin or a white paper, unless the weather is ok for an outdoor shoot (it's supposed to rain here this weekend).

Any suggestions on lighting setup and posing would be appreciated.

It really depends on what lighting style you want. Key light, 30 deg off lens axis and slightly above head height with the fill 80 on the opposite axis at eye-level and 2 stops down should be a good start. That should be a nice, even portrait lighting; nothing too dramatic.
