First Maternity Shoot [NSFW] *pic heavy*

This is a couple who asked me if I would be interested in shooting a few maternity shots for them. I instantly said, "sure thing" but later realized I had no clue about maternity photography. However, after doing some learning, I came out with the following results. I'm pretty happy with the results but c&c is greatly appreciated.

These are all well done technically. My biggest issue is that out of the bunch only 3 shots show her face. Maybe that was intentional but faces are what sells the emotion of a maternity shot.

There are a few more of the couple just smiling and looking at the camera on my Flickr. I must of just left those out of the bunch I chose to showcase on tpf.

the standout to me as far as CC goes is that all seem to be taken at about the same distance from the couple, same crop size, no variation. they're plenty cute I'd just like to see some more variation.

I agree about the lack in variation with crops already mentioned. I also would add that the beach shots don't feel relaxed, mostly because of the squinty eyes and harsh lighting. and her hair is all over the place from the wind. I don't know if it was your idea or theirs to be on the beach, but I think the harsh lighting hurts the final product here. To me, a maternity shoot should be about feeling relaxed and connected. These feel anxious. I do enjoy the first few, however. I like 1, 4, 5, and 7 the best.

That first shot is extremely awkward. It looks like he is trying to give her the heimlich. While the photos are exposed well, and you've got some nice poses, you need some fill light to get rid of shadows in a lot of these. Also, as a whole, these don't really work for me as maternity photos. You posed them like they should be posed for a couples shoot, and these shots would work well for that. However, none of them really focus on the pregnancy. Several of them make her just look fat, not pregnant (the ones in the dress). I would say that 2-7, except for 4, are the closest.
