First "official" newborn/maternity shots

1 looks underexposed and baby skin needs work- its very red.

2 Isn't doing much for me, can't see much of the baby though.

3 has chopped off feet. Do you have another similar shot you can merge with this one to add their feet back?

Newborns have delicate details, tiny wrinkles, and itty bitty fingers and toes. I always try to get all those details since they grow so fast (and you may have, just throwing that out there). For newborns, it's fun to use all sorts of cute props, but there's something to be said for simplicity as well.

#1 skin tones need work on all.. underexposed...
#2 underexposed.. very little interest to anyone but maybe the mother. Framing (elbow cut off).. lots of dead space
#3 don't cut off feet... shoot vertical subject in portrait orientation... I would prefer to see her head also... not half a mom...

I agree with mommy medic, most newborn photos I have seen focus on the detail of the wrinkled skin, tiny toes and fingers. Get closer

I posted previously from my phone and I hate typing anything lengthy from it, but if you're still around, then this may or may not be of use to you. I'm not sure what you use to edit your images, but if you are familiar with photoshop and installing actions, google "nelly nero" and use the "baby skin cream". (No affiliation whatsoever, it's ust a free action I found, I think on deviantart.com, and it does a great job of baby skin). I run it (it starts by making a duplicate image and editing that so your original is untouched) just until it stops and asks you to start painting on the layer masks. Then I merge layers, copy and paste as a second layer back on to the original. It will usually be too washed-out so I adjust the opacity as needed and merge layers. Works beautifully!

Thanks for the info! I have the newest version of paintshop pro but I'm sure it has something similar. I'll have to research that online.
